Replacing your Corvette C6 Navigation Radio Upgrade
Whether you have the standard radio or the optional Nav radio, the removal and replacement process is not recommended. Removal of the stock unit is difficult and labor intensive. Warning : you will lose the HUD Navigation interface, but not the HUD itself.
Why You Should NOT Replacing Your OEM Radio
I really like the HUD integration with the OEM NAV. That is the main reason I have not gone aftermarket, because none of them can integrate with the C6 HUD. HUD is not a standard equipment. It comes as part of the 3LT equipment group. 1LT (base) and 2LT PEG’s do not have the HUD as included.
The Corvettes optioned with HUD come with a different windshield. The HUD glass has an extra layer of reflective material sandwiched between the two layers of glasses. The HUD windshield also has a slight taper and it is .3mm thicker at the base of the windshield. It also tapers off just above the top of the HUD. This taper allows for the focal point of the HUD to be where the designers wanted it.
There is a $3,010.00 price difference between the 2LT and the 3LT coupe. In addition to the HUD. It adds a 6 disc in dash CD changer standard, heated seats, seat memory option and steering wheel audio controls.
If you replace the factory radio, you’ll lose your factory XM satellite radio capability and steering wheel audio controls. All Corvette comes with warning chime built into the factory radio. Removing the stock head-unit will disable the warning chime as well as the circuitry for the Bose amplifier.

The best fm transmitter for iPhone offers simplicity and great sound to any Corvette sound system. You can listen and stream music from Pandora, Podcasts, Audiobooks, even Youtube instantly!
The bottom line to get good but not great sound in the Corvette. You are looking at factory radio removal and C6 aftermarket installation. The hardware cost is about $1000 and installation will be around $500-600. To get great sound in C6 increase the hardware by another $1000 and installation by another $200. To get the best sound possible while retaining the head-unit, you’re gonna spend $2500-3000 bucks for hardware and $1000 on installation. Additionally, you will lose functions like the HUDc( Heads Up Display ), safety chimes, steering wheel controls and other electronic features.
The Corvette OEM Sound System is very powerful Nav unit made by Denso. It uses Tom Tom directional tools for the Nav DVD. While they are not the easiest nav to use, I do like the way they interface with the HUD. The only people who don’t think that is worth it are people who have never had it. Its seriously nice to have a turn come up on the HUD – especially for folks like me irritated by the nav lady talks to me constantly in guidance mode.
