Today I’m bringing you a sweet and simple Mercedes Bluetooth upgrade for your trusty older Benz Factory Radio. You see, my MBZ C-Class W202 is left out in the music streaming world, so I decided to give it a little upgrade and add Bluetooth audio compatibility. And the best part? It’s a cheap and easy DIY project that anyone can do.

Now, before we get started, let me just clarify that this upgrade applies to all Mercedes models from 1999 to 2012 that come with or without the MBZ Navigation Infotainment System. So, if you’re rocking a newer or older model, you might have to look elsewhere for your Bluetooth fix. But for the rest of us, let’s get to it!

First things first, we need to locate the MMI plug, which is usually hiding in the glove box. As you can see, I had an old-school USB adapter plugged in, but we’re going for streaming music now, baby! Now, I should mention that my car came with a complete MMI cable kit, including USB, iPod, and auxiliary cables. But unfortunately, none of those options allowed me to add Bluetooth audio streaming without running separate power to the device.

That’s why I chose the Gizmo Guy Gadget Bluetooth Adapter instead of the MMI plug. Not only is it super easy to install, but it doesn’t require any additional dashboard kit. So, let’s get to it! We remove any existing adapters from the MMI port and insert the new Bluetooth adapter. And just like that, it starts flashing, ready to connect to our streaming device.

From there, it’s as simple as selecting Bluetooth on our device and connecting to the Gizmo Guy Gadget Bluetooth Adapter. Then, we switch to auxiliary on the command sensor, and voila! Music streaming from our phone, no cords, and no mess.

Install Bluetooth Audio Adapter on Your Mercedes

This is just a quick, easy do-it-yourself version for you guys that don’t want to have to cut any wires or anything.

So, with the cable in place, I’m gonna reinstall the compartment, making sure that the wire doesn’t fall out. And, because we’re fancy, we’re gonna connect the Gizmo Guy Gadget Bluetooth Adapter to the aux port and make sure it’s out of the way. Now, we’re gonna plug in the power cable to the cigarette lighter adapter, and it’s all ready to go.

Next, we’re gonna reconnect the fuse panel cover, and with the ignition turned on, we’re gonna put the radio audio button into the auxiliary mode. And voila! You can now play songs, music, and even answer calls from your phone via the Gizmo Guy Bluetooth Adapter

Connecting your mobile device to your Mercedes-Benz’s infotainment system via Bluetooth is a quick and easy process. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to successfully pair your phone with your car, so you can enjoy hands-free calling and streaming of your favorite music and podcasts.

Mercedes Bluetooth Adapter instructions

Step 1: Activate Bluetooth on Your Mobile Device

The first step to setting up Bluetooth on your Mercedes Benz C-Class W202 is to make sure that Gizmo Guy Gadget Bluetooth Adapter is turned on and visible on your mobile device. On most smartphones, this can be done by going to the Settings app, then selecting Bluetooth. Make sure the toggle switch is turned on, and your device’s name should appear in the list of available devices.

Step 2: Access the Bluetooth Menu on Your Mercedes-Benz

Once Bluetooth is activated on your mobile device, you will need to access the Bluetooth menu on your car’s infotainment system. This is typically done by pressing the “Phone” button on your car’s dashboard or steering wheel. From there, select the “Settings” or “Connections” option, then choose “Bluetooth.”

Step 3: Pair Your Device

With the Bluetooth menu open on your infotainment system, you will see an option to “Search for Devices.” Select this option, and your car will begin to search for nearby devices. Once your mobile device appears on the list, select it to initiate the pairing process. You may be prompted to enter a PIN code, which is “HY-62” for VIP or “S-23” for Basic

Step 4: Enjoy Hands-Free Calling and Streaming

Once your mobile device is successfully paired with your car, you will be able to make hands-free calls and stream music and podcasts directly through your car’s speakers. To place a call, simply press the “Phone” button on your dashboard or steering wheel and use the voice command feature to call a contact or dial a number. To play music or a podcast, open the app on your mobile device and select the “Play” option.

Step 5: Mercedes Benz Bluetooth Adapter Pairing Code

  1. The Mercedes-Benz system will prompt you to enter a pairing code. This code is often provided in the documentation or packaging of your Bluetooth adapter. If not, the default pairing code for many Bluetooth adapters is “0000” or “1234”. Enter the correct code using the infotainment system controls.
  2. Once you have entered the pairing code, confirm the selection, and the pairing process will begin. It may take a few moments for the devices to establish a connection.
  3. Once the pairing is successful, you should see a confirmation message on your Mercedes-Benz display or infotainment system. Your Bluetooth adapter is now paired with your vehicle, and you can start enjoying wireless connectivity for calls, music streaming, and more.

Stream music from your iOS or Android Phone

You can now play songs, music, and even answer calls from your phone via the Bluetooth adapter. Your car is now the ultimate party machine, and you did it all yourself. So, go ahead, impress your friends and turn up the volume, you deserve it!

And the best part? You’ll be the envy of all your friends and family, as you’ll be the only one with a Bluetooth-enabled car. They’ll all be asking you how you did it, and you’ll be able to tell them proudly that you did it yourself. So, go ahead and give it a try, it’s a cheap and easy way to upgrade your car and make it more fun to drive.
